JPEG, PNG, HEIC or WEBP straight from your phone. It is read in your browser and never transmitted.
Eighteen checks run instantly: head height, eye height, level, background shadow, red-eye, file size. You see which ones passed.

How we verify
We compare your photo against the published rules for the document you picked. We do not retouch the face. If a rule cannot be verified from the image, we say so instead of guessing.
FAQ

No. We crop, resize and export a JPEG. Nothing else is touched. US rules prohibit digitally altering a photo to change how you look, and an altered photo is one of the fastest ways to get an application rejected. That is also why we do not rotate a slightly tilted photo — straightening leaves a filled strip where the frame runs out of picture, and a filled strip is exactly what reviewers look for. A couple of degrees of head tilt is usually fine; we show you the number and let you decide.
The same rule covers marks on the picture: a watermark, logo, stamp, sticker or caption anywhere in the frame gets an application rejected. The checker flags dense detail in the four corners, which is where those usually sit. It cannot reliably spot a caption sitting in the middle of a plain background, so look at your own photo once before you submit it.
From the pages the US government publishes: the State Department's passport and visa photo requirements, the photo composition template, and the USCIS instructions for Form I-485. We record the source for each figure and re-check them periodically.
No. The analysis and the export run in your browser. Your photo is never transmitted to us, and closing the tab discards it.
The full-resolution file with the watermark removed (600×600 JPEG or larger where the document allows), plus print sheets in 4×6, A4 and US Letter. All of it is generated on your device.
If it passes every check we run and is still rejected, we redo it free — send the order number and the rejection notice. If the report warned you about something and you submitted anyway, that one is on the photo, not the tool.
Yes, as long as someone else takes it or you use a timer — the camera must be at eye level and the photo must not be tilted. Turn off portrait and beauty modes; those filters change your face.
